Workshops and Talks

Photography workshops inspired by my photographic practice and collection

DSC_6281.jpg

Get experimental, handle old photographs, use things you find at home to create unique portraits and ultimately, have fun.

Photography and collecting are powerful tools for expression and should be accessible. I teach the fundamentals of photography, both technical and historical, combined with a focus on encouraging experimentation and free expression.

The aim is to give participants skills which they can carry forward and use after the workshop, whether they have a full camera setup or simply their phone.

I run workshops for all ages - groups, schools, companies and individuals, from 2 hours to a full day  as well as giving talks and lectures.

FOUND PHOTOGRAPHY FANZINE WORKSHOP in collaboration with FOLIUM PUBLISHING  BRIGHTROOMS, PECKHAM LEVELS
- 2 hours, 5 participants.
https://thebrightrooms.com/product/artist-series-zine-day-saturday-31aug/

Working with Folium Publishing and hosted by Bright Rooms, we dug deep into my archive of found photography to create a collaborative fanzine. I began the session talking through my collection and my motivation to collect, as well as giving pointers on starting your own collection. I highlighted elements people might want to look for while rummaging but allowed people to find their own way. The participants sorted through hundreds of found images to find themes or subjects that interested them. From there, they created montages and pages filled with artwork created using collaging, annotating, and photocopying.

All the pages were assembled into a fanzine, with each participant having a copy to take home.

TALKS AND LECTURES

I give talks and lectures on found photography, the history of photography, my own extensive archive, as well as my contemporary arts practice. I have conducted talks at several venues including London Institute of Photography, Red Rolled and Seen, and Bermondsey Project Space.

My talks and lectures have strong interactive elements. I encourage audience members to handle and examine the photographs and albums which I bring to every talk.
